Functional Dry Needling

Functional Dry Needling is a general term for a therapeutic treatment procedure that involves multiple advances of a filament needle into the muscle in the area of the body, which produces pain and typically contains a ‘Trigger Point’. Most patients will not even feel the needle penetrate the skin, but once it has and is advanced into the muscle, the feeling of discomfort can vary drastically from patient to patient. Dry needling is an effective treatment for acute and chronic pain, rehabilitation from injury, and even pain and injury prevention, with very few side effects. This technique is unequaled in finding and eliminating neuromuscular dysfunction that leads to pain and functional deficits.

Graston Technique

The Graston Technique® incorporates a patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function. It can separate and break down cross-links, and splays and stretches connective tissue and muscle fibers. Graston technique increases the rate and amount of blood flow to and from the area worked on and can facilitate reflex changes in chronic muscle holding pattern.

Testimonials

  • In September of 2015, I was referred to Dr. Apgar after several weeks of lower back and sciatic nerve pain. I had never seen a chiropractor before, but Dr. Apgar made me felt at ease. His office was clean and inviting, and he took the time to hear the story of my body, my strengths, and past injuries. Dr. Apgar is kind, funny, and compassionate, and the dry needling made me whole again.

  • Dr. Apgar is incredibly thorough. He takes his time to explain not only what is going wrong but each step of his treatment does to fix it. Though the treatments are sometimes uncomfortable, I feel much better in the long run.

  • I’ve been seeing Dr. Apgar for Chiropractic Adjustment and Graston since April of 2011. Dr. Apgar is a crucial part of my training and recovery plan. Working with him, I’ve come to realize that the spine health and alignment is crucial for my health. I used to be on the fence about Chiropractic work — results changed that for me.

  • Dr. Apgar has now rehabed me through 4 reconstructive joint surgeries. Each time I’m amazed at his patience and tenacity to help me regain my strength and range of motion. Here’s hoping I don’t have to have any more surgeries but I know that I’ll continue to go see Dr. Apgar for general maintenance.

  • For the last 2 1/2 years Brent has been my go to for health problems. I had whip-lash that caused migraine’s and scar-tissue build-up. After my first appointment, I had dramatic relief from chronic headaches and eye pain. Brent was knowledgeable and caring. I’m grateful to Brent for a better quality of life!
